Our History: 30 Years of Excellence in Interior Design
Established in 1987, MBID International Inc. is North Carolina’s only interior design firm specializing in both luxury boutique hotel design and custom residential design. Our 30 years of experience working with these two distinct areas of design has allowed us to develop a unique expertise in designing interiors that are luxurious, dynamic, exclusive, and prominent, while still offering atmospheres that are accommodating, welcoming, and inviting.
Our founder, Madge Megliola ASID is a professional designer with 30 years’ experience in the trade. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a bachelor’s degree in interior design and has passed the NCIDQ exam (National Council for Interior Design Qualification). She has served as an adjunct professor in interior design at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and High Point University. She has been a guest speaker and adviser to the High Point Design Center. She is certified by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification and is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) where she has served on the Board of Directors of the Carolinas Chapter (NCASID). Madge’s projects include numerous high-end residences and boutique hotels.
In 2010, Madge began the process of passing on the baton of ownership and day-to-day running of the business to focus more of her time on challenging design projects and international consultation. For the past 6 years she has served as American design consultant for several companies in China where she has traveled extensively. She continues to enjoy teaching, speaking, and designing in China and is still available by request to consult on local US projects..
Mary Elizabeth Beal is the owner and principle designer of MBID International. Since joining the firm in 2010, Mary Elizabeth helped Madge Megliola to grow the business from a longstanding, well-respected residential firm into the leading luxury and boutique hotel and residential interior design firm in the state of North Carolina. Prior to joining the firm, she earned an interior design bachelor’s degree from the school of architecture at the University of Florida. Upon graduation, Mary Elizabeth’s reputation landed her a job working for a fashion and television celebrity turned furniture and fashion mogul and her work during that time was featured on Good Morning America. This experience and recognition opened numerous doors of opportunity to design projects from quaint Florida bungalows with sweeping canal views to 5 Star mountain/ski retreats in Colorado, to showroom/retail/ and hotel and restaurant projects in San Francisco, Dallas, Las Vegas, and numerous cities across her home state of North Carolina.
Mary Elizabeth is certified by the National Council of Interior Design Qualification and is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Her 15+ years of interior design experience includes projects enjoyed by celebrities, professional athletes, government officials, and owners of fortune 500 companies. She is now sought after to design some of the finest luxury and boutique hotels, residences, and vacation homes in the country.
